Oilers and trolley team for coat drive
This time, it’s OK to leave your coat behind on the trolley.
T-Town Trolley and Tulsa Oilers have teamed to help the Day Center for the Homeless with a coat drive on Friday.
A trolley will stop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McNellie’s, collecting coats to take to the center. Then, it moves to Camille’s at 96th Street and Riverside Drive, where it will collect coats from 2 to 5 p.m.
Blake Lund, who owns the trolley service, has “a passion for the homeless,” he said. So when Gina Holloway, who does marketing consulting for him, saw something about the Day Center on KTUL, channel 8′s morning show, they decided to lend a hand — and as many coats as possible.
During the collections, members of the Oilers, as well as the team mascot and some of the Oilers Ice Girls will be onboard signing autographs and giving away one ticket for the Oilers’ Saturday game per donation, Lund said.
The center is looking for all sizes of new and gently used coats, particularly adult outerwear, said Hallie Green, the center’s development director.
“Really, anything that can be layered,” Green said of the center’s needs. “Hoodies, jackets, heavy winter coats — we’ll take it all.” They see about 400 people each day in all shapes and sizes, so every article of clothing helps.
The center also needs hats, gloves, scarves, blankets and towels, Green said.
